A Zig without a Zag

A cinematic journey through Rankin and Missoni’s surreal pop maximalist world

For the latest issue of Hunger, photographer and editor-in-chief Rankin collaborated with Italian label Missoni to create a kaleidoscopic world for their latest collection of handbags, designed by Margherita Missoni. Staying true to Missoni’s aesthetics, the film and editorial’s playful narrative is complimented with surreal set designs by Leeds based duo Lord Whitney.

The story tells the journey of Zig, lost in a world of sequins, pinstripes, flowers and polka dots, searching high and low for her place amongst the lively patterns. With the help of Missoni’s leather goods Zig finally finds her Zag, completing the signature print. For Rankin, the beauty of the shoot was in the freedom he was granted, explaining that Missoni was unafraid to let him create “something slightly unusual, colourful and endearing.”
