It avoids being fashionable and therefore never appears antiquated. Unlike fashionable design, it lasts many years — even in today’s throwaway society.
Long-lasting is a tricky word but still Rams’ statement is very clear on its meaning. It doesn’t mean an object needs to just last a long time itself, it means timeless.
Of-course that “good design is long-lasting” means to last long time, but not just the integrity of an object but its purpose, its appealing, its beauty.
Timeless, on the other hand, is something that is not affected by the passage of time or changes in fashion. It’s independent of time. It’s not ephemeral.
More than ever !
We live in a very changeable and fashionable world. Everyday there’s a new trend and everyday one ends. That’s what trend are, they represent a current popular fashion or style.
Step away from fashionable!
The majority of products that we encounter in our day-to-day lives scream for attention or try to impress us with their magnificence or miniscule size…
Good design creates powerful long-lasting relationships with products as good design creates objects with balanced proportions; Rams work goes further by trying to create objects in balanced proportion with people.

Note: What about digital design?
A long-lasting website is always controversial, but this principle can be applied easily to the trendy side of design. In other words, there will always be a new trend in web design. Just don’t follow them.
A website must always be updated in its content, but the main structure should be long-lasting with small iterations in the design to improve the visual experience and technology to keep it fresh.
